This Week in the Market: Five Simple Ways Italians Use Olive Oil Every Day

One of the questions we hear most often in our Italian Market is surprisingly simple.

“Which olive oil should I buy?”

It’s a fair question. Walk into almost any grocery store and you’ll find shelves lined with bottles from all over the world, each claiming to be the best. Labels promise “extra virgin,” “first cold pressed,” or “premium quality,” yet it’s hard to know where to begin.

The funny thing is, when you travel through Italy, olive oil doesn’t feel complicated at all.

It isn’t treated like a specialty ingredient that’s only brought out for holidays or elaborate recipes. Instead, it’s part of everyday life. A bottle sits on the table next to the salt and pepper. It’s poured over warm bread, drizzled across fresh vegetables, added to soups just before serving, and used to finish a plate of pasta.

Around here, we’ve come to appreciate that philosophy.

Sometimes the smallest ingredient makes the biggest difference.

Olive Oil Isn’t Just for Cooking

Many of us grew up thinking olive oil belonged in the frying pan. In Italy, it’s often the last ingredient added rather than the first.

A drizzle over a finished meal adds freshness, richness, and flavor that can completely change the dish.

That doesn’t mean you need to prepare an elaborate Italian dinner. Some of the best meals are also the simplest.

Good ingredients don’t ask for much.

That’s one of the reasons we enjoy sharing authentic Italian products with our customers. They help make everyday meals feel just a little more special without adding extra work to your evening.

Start with Fresh Bread

If you’ve ever walked into Cinotti’s while fresh bread is coming out of the oven, you know exactly what we’re talking about.

The aroma fills the bakery before the first loaf even reaches the shelves.

One of our favorite ways to enjoy fresh Italian bread couldn’t be easier. Slice off a warm piece, pour a little extra virgin olive oil into a shallow dish, add a pinch of sea salt or cracked black pepper if you’d like, and enjoy.

That’s it.

No recipe. No long ingredient list. Just fresh bread and good olive oil.

It’s the kind of simple tradition that invites everyone to slow down for a few minutes before dinner.

Finish, Don’t Cover

Olive oil has a wonderful way of bringing ingredients together without hiding them.

After pasta is cooked, try adding a light drizzle just before serving. It gives the sauce a beautiful finish and helps carry the flavors throughout the dish.

The same idea works with roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, or even a bowl of homemade soup.

Rather than overwhelming the meal, good olive oil simply helps everything else shine.

It’s one of those small details that reminds us why Italian cooking has remained timeless for generations.

Let Cheese Be the Star

Another simple combination we love is authentic Parmigiano Reggiano with a drizzle of olive oil.

The cheese already has incredible depth and character. A little olive oil enhances those flavors without taking over.

Add a few crackers, fresh bread, or some olives from the market, and you’ve created an easy appetizer that’s perfect for sharing before dinner or serving when friends stop by.

Sometimes entertaining doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs a few ingredients that were made well.

A Fresh Finish for Summer

Florida summers naturally call for lighter meals, and olive oil fits beautifully into that way of eating.

Fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and a drizzle of quality olive oil become lunch.

A crisp salad becomes something worth looking forward to.

Even leftover pasta from the night before feels refreshed with a little olive oil instead of a heavy sauce.

It’s amazing how one ingredient can quietly become part of so many meals throughout the week.

Don’t Forget the Table

One of the things we admire most about Italian culture isn’t found in a cookbook.

It’s found around the table.

Meals are meant to be shared. Conversations last a little longer. Bread gets passed around one more time. Someone pours another splash of wine. Coffee follows dessert, and nobody seems to be in a hurry to leave.

Food becomes less about eating and more about spending time together.

That’s something we’ve always loved, both in our own family and here at Cinotti’s.

Whether you’re stopping by for fresh bread, picking up ingredients from the Italian Market, or choosing a bottle of wine for dinner, we hope those foods become part of moments that matter.

After all, the best memories rarely begin with a complicated recipe.

More often than not, they begin with people gathering around the table.

Bringing Italy Home

One of the reasons we expanded into an Italian Market was to make those moments a little easier to create.

You don’t have to travel across the ocean to enjoy authentic Italian flavors. You can stop in after work, pick up a loaf of fresh Italian bread, choose an imported olive oil, add a wedge of Parmigiano Reggiano, and find a bottle of Italian wine that fits the evening ahead.

On your way out, you might decide to grab a slice of Italian Cream Cake for dessert or a cappuccino from the coffee bar.

Before you know it, dinner has become something more than another meal.

It has become an experience.

And if we’ve learned anything after five generations in the bakery, it’s that the meals people remember aren’t always the most elaborate.

They’re the ones shared with the people they love.
