Before We Turn Off the Ovens, Why Our Annual Summer Break Matters

There aren’t many days during the year when the ovens at Cinotti’s are quiet.

For five generations, our family has built a life around early mornings, flour-covered aprons, handwritten recipes, and the familiar rhythm of a bakery coming to life before most of Jacksonville is awake. Long before the first customer walks through the door, bread is already baking, donuts are cooling, cakes are being decorated, and coffee is brewing.

That rhythm has carried our family through decades of birthdays, holidays, graduations, weddings, and ordinary Tuesday mornings. It’s become part of who we are.

But each summer, something different happens.

The mixers stop. The lights go off. The alarm gets set a little earlier than usual, not because we’re heading into the bakery, but because we’re packing suitcases instead of pastry boxes.

From Saturday, July 25 through Monday, August 3, both Cinotti’s Bakery & Italian Market locations will close for our annual family vacation. We’ll reopen on Tuesday, August 4, rested, refreshed, and ready for another season of serving our community.

For many businesses, closing for more than a week might seem unusual. For us, it’s one of the most important traditions we have.

A Bakery Doesn’t Run on Flour Alone

People often ask what it’s like to own a family bakery.

The easy answer is that it’s rewarding.

The honest answer is that it’s also demanding.

Bakeries don’t sleep in. Fresh bread doesn’t wait until tomorrow. Donuts still need to be fried before sunrise, birthday cakes still have to be finished on time, and holidays begin weeks before they arrive on the calendar.

It’s a business built on consistency. Our customers count on us to be here for birthdays, office meetings, family dinners, baby showers, weddings, and the everyday moments that deserve something fresh from the bakery.

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

But after months of early mornings, long days, and serving thousands of customers, we’ve learned something that has become just as important as making great bread.

Even bakers need time to refill their own cup.

Five Generations, One Shared Lesson

Our family has been baking for generations, but one thing hasn’t changed through all those years.

Family comes first.

That doesn’t mean stepping away from the bakery is easy. In fact, it might be one of the hardest decisions we make each year. We know many of you stop by every week. Some of you visit almost every day. We never take that loyalty for granted.

At the same time, we also know that the memories we make with our own families matter just as much as the memories we help create inside the bakery.

Those few days away allow us to reconnect, laugh a little more, rest a little longer, and come back with the energy that has carried Cinotti’s through five generations.

We believe taking care of our family allows us to better care for yours.

Before We Close, Stock Up on Your Favorites

If there’s something you love from Cinotti’s, now is the perfect time to plan ahead.

Need a birthday cake before we leave? Place your order early.

Want fresh bread for the freezer? It freezes beautifully and tastes wonderful once warmed.

Have a favorite pastry, cookies for the office, or donuts you’ve been craving? Stop by before July 25 and take a little bit of Cinotti’s home with you.

Our Italian Market is also a great place to stock your pantry while we’re away. Fill your shelves with imported pasta, olive oils, specialty sauces, cheeses, chocolates, coffees, and other Italian favorites that make weeknight dinners feel a little more special.

Even while the bakery takes a short break, your kitchen can still enjoy a taste of Italy.

Pumpkin Season Is Just Around the Corner

If you’ve been visiting Cinotti’s for a while, you know what comes next.

As soon as we return, our attention begins to shift toward one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year.

Fall.

That means planning for pumpkin season, preparing for football weekends, baking more pies, creating holiday treats, and getting ready for the Pumpkin Donuts that have become a tradition for so many families throughout Northeast Florida.

Some of our customers start asking about Pumpkin Donuts before summer is even over, and honestly, we understand. They’re part of what makes fall at Cinotti’s feel like home.

This little break gives us the opportunity to come back ready for all of it.

Thank You for Giving Us This Time

Running a fifth-generation family business isn’t something we accomplish alone.

Every loaf of bread we bake, every cake we decorate, every cup of coffee we serve, and every smile we share is possible because of the people who choose to walk through our doors.

You’ve celebrated birthdays with us.

You’ve trusted us with your wedding cakes.

You’ve brought your children in for donuts and watched them grow into adults who now bring in children of their own.

Many of you have become more than customers. You’ve become part of the Cinotti’s story.

We don’t take that for granted.

Your support allows us to continue doing what our family loves, and it also allows us to take this short pause each summer to spend time with the people who matter most to us.

For that, we are deeply grateful.
